Book Review: Love Story, Take Three by Gloria D. Miklowitz

When I was a kid, there was a book club subscription service called Especially For Girls. My mom signed me up for it when I began to become an avid reader. One of the books I received was Love Story, Take Three by Gloria D. Miklowitz. For whatever reason, it ended up on a shelf in my mom's shoe closet without me reading it. Several years later, she was cleaning out the closet and came across the book and gave it back to me. I remember reading it in high school and falling in love with it. As part of my rereading my way through my childhood, I decided to read it again to see if it stood the test of time.
Love Story, Take Three by Gloria D. Miklowitz is about a teenage actress named Valerie who wants nothing more than to have a normal life like her classmates. When she starts dating basketball player Tom Gordon, Valerie lies about being an actress, which becomes harder to hide when she lands a lead role on a new television show.

Book Review: Ocean City (Ocean City, #1) by Katherine Applegate

Image
When I was a teenager, one of my favorite authors was Katherine Applegate. Her books were almost always a teen romance or a teen drama that was similar to that of the television show Beverly Hills, 90210. I was always left with wanting more, which just goes to show you that Katherine Applegate is a talented writer. With that being said, I wanted to see if one of my favorite book series by her stood the test of time, so I picked up my copy of Ocean City (Ocean City, #1), and I was not disappointed.
Kate Quinn and best friend Chelsea Lennox head to Ocean City, Maryland without their parents for the summer for a chance to be on their own before they head off to college in the fall. Things go horribly wrong when their housing falls through. They are forced to rent an expensive five bedroom house with a boathouse on the bay and scramble to find roommates to help with the rent.

What I remember thinking when I first read Ocean City (Ocean City, #1) was that all the characters seemed so grow…

Book Review: Zoey Fools Around (Boyfriends/Girlfriends, #1 / Making Out, #1) by Katherine Applegate

Zoey Finds Out by Katherine Applegate is the first book in a young adult book series that goes by two different names. The original book series is called Boyfriends/ Girlfriends and includes eight books, which were written by Katherine Applegate. Then, the series was renamed Making Out and an additional twenty books were ghost written under Applegate's name. The age range for this series is twelve through seventeen.
I first came across this series when I was fourteen year old freshman in high school, and I absolutely fell in love with it. The cover shown here is the reprint when the series was renamed, and the original cover is way better from what I remember. This series is very reminiscent of the television show Beverly Hills, 90210 with all the high school drama and deals with serious topics. The biggest serious topic throughout Zoey Finds Out is drinking and driving and the consequences.
As an adult rereading Zoey Fools Around, I find that the writing and story line still hol…
