Book Review: Secret Vampire (Night World, #1) by L.J. Smith

Before Twilight, there was The Vampire Diaries and Night World, both series written by the phenomenal L.J. Smith (a.k.a. Lisa Jane Smith). The first book in the Night World series is entitled Secret Vampire and was published in June 1996.
Sixteen year old Poppy North receives news that she has only months to live. When her best friend, and crush, James Rasmussen visits in the hospital, Poppy sees another side of James when he offers to make her a part of the Night World and leave her loved ones behind.
Secret Vampire (Night World, #1) was my first introduction to books on the topic of vampires when I was a teenager. I still have yet to read Dracula or Interview with a Vampire. Although, I have seen the movie of the latter many times. I recently picked up the book for a reread as I hadn't read it since I was a teen and couldn't remember much about it.
What I loved about Secret Vampire (Night World, #1) is that it deals with a serious life and death situation and choices. I won…

Book Review: Breaking Dawn (Twilight, #4) by Stephenie Meyer

Like with all the other sequels in the Twilight series, I couldn't wait to start Breaking Dawn and see what the conclusion of the series would bring. The longest book in the series at 756 pages, Breaking Dawn doesn't read like other books of this length. I flew through the pages, and upon a second read through, I noticed a ton of details I missed the first time around. Out of all the books in the series (Twilight, New Moon, Eclipse, and Breaking Dawn), the last installment was my favorite one.
The anticipation of whether or not Bella Swan would actually be turned into a vampire by Edward Cullen had my stomach in knots. The first half of the book didn't have a lot of action in it. It was basically about Bella and Edward getting married and their honeymoon. The second half of the book had all of the action in it and a lot of what ifs.
I love the fact that we meet a lot of the vampires from all over the world . . . for those that have lived under a rock and haven't read …

Book Review: New Moon (Twilight, #2) by Stephenie Meyer

Image
Immediately upon finishing Twilight by Stephenie Meyer, I picked up my copy of New Moon (Twilight, #2) and began reading. I couldn't wait to see what happened next with Bella Swan and Edward Cullen. Unfortunately, New Moon ended up being my least favorite book of the entire Twilight series. That's not to say I didn't like it because I did. Because it was a building book, it seemed to move a lot slower than the preceding book, and that is why I didn't like it as much. Of all the books in the series, this one took me the longest to read at 2.5 to 3 days. And, that is interrupted reading because I had to work.

Another thing that made me not like New Moon as much as Twilight was the fact that so much of it was about how heartbroken Bella was over Edward leaving her. Everyone goes through heartbreak when their significant other leaves them, but at a certain point, I just wanted to shake Bella and tell her to move on because it wasn't worth being so miserable over a guy…
