Book Review: The Last Carolina Summer by Karen White

The Last Carolina Summer by Karen White is the story about Phoebe Manigault returning home to Mt. Pleasant, a suburb of Charleston, South Carolina, to help her sister with their ailing mother. When past memories resurface, Phoebe is thrown back into some childhood turmoil. I requested an Advanced Readers Copy ARC of The Last Carolina Summer from NetGalley, and I was ecstatic when the provided me with a copy for free in exchange for my honest review. So, a big thank you goes out to them! When I began reading this story, I just happened to be vacationing in Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina. I loved hearing about the different places, including streets and a bridge called the Arthur Ravenel Jr. Bridge, which I had to cross to get into Mt. Pleasant as well as Isle of Palms. It's always nice to be able to visualize the places and author writes about. With that being said, I'm not a fan of traveling over bridges, and one of the scenes of The Last Carolina Summer mentions a car going off ...

Book Review: Secret Vampire (Night World, #1) by L.J. Smith

Before  Twilight , there was The Vampire Diaries and Night World , both series written by the phenomenal L.J. Smith (a.k.a. Lisa Jane Smith). The first book in the Night World series is entitled Secret Vampire and was published in June 1996.  Sixteen year old Poppy North receives news that she has only months to live. When her best friend, and crush, James Rasmussen visits in the hospital, Poppy sees another side of James when he offers to make her a part of the Night World and leave her loved ones behind. Secret Vampire (Night World, #1) was my first introduction to books on the topic of vampires when I was a teenager. I still have yet to read Dracula or Interview with a Vampire . Although, I have seen the movie of the latter many times. I recently picked up the book for a reread as I hadn't read it since I was a teen and couldn't remember much about it. Book Review: Twilight (Twilight, #1) by Stephenie Meyer

The year was 2008 , and it seemed everywhere I went, I heard people talking about the book Twilight by Stephenie Meyer. The movie based on the book was finally in theaters, and on a Saturday afternoon, I finally decided to breakdown and buy the book to see what all the fuss was about. That night, I started reading the book and stayed up until the wee hours the next morning. When I woke up, I had to buy the rest of the books in the series so I could immediately start reading the next one. I was absolutely enchanted by the story. In the many book discussions I've had with different people, they say how poorly written Twilight is, but in the same breath, they add that they were sucked in by the story line. This always blows my mind because if it were so poorly written, then they wouldn't have been as engaged as much as they were . . . at least in my opinion.
