Book Review: The Last Carolina Summer by Karen White

Image
The Last Carolina Summer by Karen White is the story about Phoebe Manigault returning home to Mt. Pleasant, a suburb of Charleston, South Carolina, to help her sister with their ailing mother. When past memories resurface, Phoebe is thrown back into some childhood turmoil. I requested an Advanced Readers Copy ARC of The Last Carolina Summer from NetGalley, and I was ecstatic when the provided me with a copy for free in exchange for my honest review. So, a big thank you goes out to them! When I began reading this story, I just happened to be vacationing in Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina. I loved hearing about the different places, including streets and a bridge called the Arthur Ravenel Jr. Bridge, which I had to cross to get into Mt. Pleasant as well as Isle of Palms. It's always nice to be able to visualize the places and author writes about. With that being said, I'm not a fan of traveling over bridges, and one of the scenes of The Last Carolina Summer mentions a car going off ...

Book Review: Twelve Sharp (Stephanie Plum, #12) by Janet Evanovich

In Twelve Sharp (Stephanie Plum, #12) by Janet Evanovich, Stephanie Plum finds herself being stalked by a woman dressed in all black, carries a 9mm Glock, and reveals that she has a connection to Carlos "Ranger" Manoso. When someone dies and a child goes missing, Ranger and Stephanie team up to find the culprits. As the two become friendlier with each, Stephanie's boyfriend, Joe Morelli, steps up. What I enjoyed about this book is that Stephanie finally tells Joe that she loves him, and I felt like she was finally growing and maturing as a character. I also appreciated that we learned a lot more about Ranger in this edition. It made his character a little more three dimensional.  However, there were things that I didn't like as  well. In the previous book, Eleven On Top (Stephanie Plum, #11) , Stephanie had quit her job as a bounty hunter and went to work for Ranger's security company. In Twelve Sharp , she's gone back to being a bounty hunter with no explana...

Book Review: Plum Lovin' (Stephanie Plum, #12.5) by Janet Evanovich

In this edition of the Stephanie Plum Between-the-Numbers novel Plum Lovin' , Diesel pops back into Stephanie's life to make a deal with her. He'll help her find Annie Hart, Stephanie's most recent bond enforcement job. The catch? She has to help Diesel play matchmaker for Annie Hart, who is a relationship specialist and is missing, and he knows where she is. Why? Diesel has promised Annie he will work on five of her cases, and he isn't good at relationships. Plum Lovin' by Janet Evanovich is the second between the numbers books and is more of a novella at just under 200 pages. And, I enjoyed it a lot better than the first Between-the-Numbers book, Visions of Sugar Plums because it had less paranormal elements in it. Don't get me wrong, I love paranormal just as much as the next person, but it just doesn't seem to fit in with the Stephanie Plum series. I would be completely fine if all of the paranormal was taken out though because that isn...
