Book Review: Surprise, Surprise! (Horse Crazy, #4) by Virginia Vail

Image
Surprise, Surprise! (Horse Crazy, #4) by Virginia Vail opens with Emily Jordan being excited that her parents and brother are coming to visit her at Webster's Country Horse Camp. Much to Emily's surprise, they brought her best friend Judy with them. The fourth book in the Horse Crazy book series was written extremely well for the target audience. I remembered loving this series as a child and had to reread it as an adult. It brought back all the feels, and it made me wish I had attended an overnight horse camp when I was a kid. And, I didn't remember anything about this book, so it was like reading it for the first time. Major themes of the book included jealousy and feeling left out. The way that Virginia Vail dealt with these topics was done perfectly because who hasn't felt like Emily at some point in their life? I loved the fact that the author had Emily and Judy discuss how they were feeling because it teaches kids that communication is key and not to assume thin...

Welcome To Junior High (Girl Talk, #1) by L.E. Blair is the first book in the Girl Talk book series taking place in Acorn Falls, Minnesota and featuring the unlikely friendship between four American girls by the names of Sabrina "Sab" Wells, Allison Cloud, Katherine "Katie" Campbell , and Rowena "Randy" Zak. The first edition in this series is told from the point of view of Sabrina Wells, who is excited for the first day of junior high and seventh grade. Everything that can go wrong on the first day of school does . . . along with making an enemy the principal's daughter, Stacy the Great. The Girl Talk book series was one of my favorite book series when I was in middle school, and I was absolutely in love with the board game of the same name. I never put together that they had anything to do with one another until a few years ago. Additionally, I literally just learned was L.E. Blair is a pseudonym used by author Katherine Applegate, who I absolutel...

Book Review: Good Sports (Horse Crazy, #3) by Virginia Vail

Good Sports (Horse Crazy, #3) by Virginia Vail is a book I bought through ThriftBooks.com in my quest to reread my way through my childhood. I didn't remember much about the Horse Crazy book series except that it was about a sleep away camp specializing in riding horses and that it made me want to go to this particular camp when I was a kid. As I read this third installment of this series, bits and pieces of the book started coming back to me. Campers at Webster's Country Horse Camp are preparing for their upcoming field day with the campers from Long Branch. The girls from Webster's desperately want to make this year the first time they beat the boys from the rival Long Branch in more than just the horseback riding and mounted events, but everything starts to fall apart when Rachel Orbison, the Thoroughbred's camp counselor, comes down with a stomach virus or the flu and can't coach the Fillies and Thoroughbreds in softball and volleyball. The majo...

Book Review: Happy Trails (Horse Crazy, #2) by Virginia Vail

Reminiscing about books that I loved as a middle school kid, I remembered there was a book series about horses that I was absolutely crazy about, but I couldn't remember the name of the series or the name of the author. It drove me nuts that I couldn't remember! Then, a couple of years ago, I was at my local library book sale and came across the first book in the series and was ecstatic. It brought back all the feelings, lol. The long forgotten book series was Horse Crazy by Virginia Vail. The first book in the series is Horseback Summer (Horse Crazy, #1) , and I remember the entire series made me want to go to sleep away camp that taught horseback riding lessons. The second installment in the Horse Crazy book series is Happy Trails (Horse Crazy, #2). Emily and the rest of her bunkmates in the Fillies cabin are set to go on an overnight trail ride with their horses, but when unhappy Dru falls off her horse, the excursion is cancelled and everyone has to go back to cam...

Book Review: Horseback Summer (Horse Crazy # 1) by Virginia Vail

Back in October, my local library system, which has 16 libraries throughout the county, had their semi-annual book sale where all proceeds help the library system. I was originally supposed to be in Nashville for the weekend but had to cancel my plans at the last minute, so I decided to go to the library sale instead. Browsing through the books, I came across a book that I loved in middle school called Horseback Summer (Horse Crazy # 1) by Virginia Vail. I didn't even hesitate, I grabbed the book and bought it for old times sake. Now if I can only get my hands on the rest of the series! There was some drama in my neighborhood earlier this week and knowing that there might be some additional drama tonight, I decided I needed to read something that wouldn't be too dramatic or to difficult to read. It was a perfect time to read Horseback Summer (Horse Crazy # 1) . As I began, it was exactly as I remembered and brought back all those fuzzy wuzzy feelings of my childhood. ...
