Death of a Tom Turkey (Hayley Powell Food and Cocktails Mystery, #18)  by Lee Hollis  opens with Tom Farley and his neighbors in a snit because he's the last holdout to sell his house to a property developer who wants to build a resort. When Tom is shot at a pre-Thanksgiving community gathering and hospitalized, Hayley Powell puts her amateur sleuthing skills to good use. Thank you to NetGalley and Kensington Publishers for providing me with an Advanced Readers Copy (ARC) of this cozy mystery. I received a copy of this book for free in exchange of my honest opinion and review of the story. I loved the fact that this latest installment of the Hayley Powell Food and Cocktails Mystery  series had a theme around the Thanksgiving holiday and included live turkeys in the plot. It was good to visit some familiar characters. Since this is the eighteenth installment in the series, Lee Hollis didn't go into much detail of the background of those reoccurring characters; however, she...

Product Review: Swanson Beef Broth

I received a Vox Box from Influenster.com that had Swanson Beef Broth in it for free in exchange for my honest review. I've never used Swanson's Beef Broth before. However, I have used their Chicken Broth before and had good results with it, so I was excited to try it out a different product by Swanson.

Typically, I eat more chicken than I do beef, so I didn't know what I wanted to make. I perused Pinterest for beef recipes that called for beef broth. I narrowed it down to beef stew and shepard's pie. Eventually, I settled on making Shepard's Pie with ground beef instead of lamb. The recipe was very simple and easy to follow.

Once I made the filling, I divided it in two small casserole dishes. The recipe made so much food, that I couldn't eat it all and ended up giving the second dish to my parent's neighbors. The neighbors enjoyed it and made two meals out of it. Things I would've changed in the recipe is I would have used more of the Swanson Beef Broth and less of the rosemary. However, the beef broth made a little gravy in the Shepard's Pie, which was a very welcome addition in my opinion.

Five out five stars is what I gave Swanson Beef Broth as it is a quality product, and it will be my go to broth to use the next time I need some for a recipe. It has a great flavor without being too overpowering. The container is easy to open and pour into a measuring cup. Next time, I will try the Swanson Beef Broth in a beef stew.
